Online Community Engagement
Across UNDP’s 40+ Country Offices implementing Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) programming, community engagement, through both online and offline dialogues, is an essential mechanism applied for promotion of tolerance, diversity, and social cohesion. Meaningful and targeted community engagement is not only critical for those possibly at risk of violent extremist recruitment, but also enables proactive civic engagement, coordination and trust building among local stakeholders such as the state and security actors, community leaders, women and youth, towards building resilience towards violent extremist influence. Through this engagement, identification of issues that are the drivers of violent extremism or create vulnerabilities towards violent extremist recruitment can also occur, leading to more accurate understanding of and response to issues.
This Resource Hub, therefore, links to a collection of resources that support the successful and effective implementation of Online Community Engagement Activities (OCEAs) by PVE practitioners across the globe. The Resource Hub is structured around an Interactive Diagnostic Tool which guides the user through the process of setting up OCEAs for PVE and helps the user identify key resources, supplemented by Guidance Cards, by answering a few questions regarding the nature and context of the activity they are planning. The content of the Resource Hub is a combination of existing resources from UNDP, new resources developed with SPF, publicly available publications and tools, and collections of experiences from UNDP country offices. This platform is designed to be continuously evolving and consequently allows for public contributions by adding new resources under the Contribute page.

UNDP delivers programmes to meet the priorities set out in the Secretary General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
